AMBER.

a small diamond in a black furnace.
I was born of fire and a burden;
but look at how I cast glitter
on the murky walls.
This painting explores a moment suspended in time; like resin, preserving the fleeting. Its title also nods to traffic lights: an urban colour that signals both hesitation and readiness, a quiet defiance in the face of uncertainty. I wanted to frame hesitation not as weakness but as power; a deliberate pause before moving forward. The Adinkra symbol grounding this piece is called Hwehwemudua, representing excellence, perfection, and critical examination.
The LUDO GIRLS. series draws on the game of Ludo, played often in my grandmother’s house in Ghana. Each painting represents a corner of the board, distinct in colour yet united in theme; reflecting the diasporan experience as both individual journeys and shared threads of return.
