a sky draped gently over a battlefield
perfect, untouched.
This painting explores the navigation between traditional and contemporary worlds; a journey of self-determination, empowerment, and shifting roles. Blending masculine and feminine traits, it balances natural and structured elements; the urbanity of ambition with the Edenic landscapes of ‘back home’. The Adinkra symbol Dwennimmen, representing the balance between strength and humility, grounds the work.
The LUDO GIRLS. series draws on the game of Ludo, played often in my grandmother’s house in Ghana. Each painting represents a corner of the board, distinct in colour yet united in theme; reflecting the diasporan experience as both individual journeys and shared threads of return.
