SOIL.

jungle blood
crying out onto the wilderness
like a manic drum
in some distant dream
This painting explores grounding, growth, and origins; the value of where you come from and where you’re going. It speaks to being rooted in something deeper than the surface, as soil does for all life; connecting humanity universally. Red, my favourite colour, evokes vitality, strength, and blood as life force. The Adinkra symbol Pempamsie featured here, represents readiness and fearlessness.
The LUDO GIRLS. series draws on the game of Ludo, played often in my grandmother’s house in Ghana. Each painting represents a corner of the board, distinct in colour yet united in theme; reflecting the diasporan experience as both individual journeys and shared threads of return.
